THE LIE OF THE LAND
Norfolk | 2024
The Lie of the Land took place at Houghton Hall, north Norfolk in July 2022 alongside Antony Gormley's Time Horizon, an installation of 100 life-size sculptures of the artist's body distributed across the Houghton Hall parkland.

Over 140 singers took part in the project, in Norwich Brighton and online, with many of the Brighton contingent comimg to Norfolk to take part in the performances. The Voice Project Choir was joined by The Voice Project Quintet, Jonathan Baker, Sian Croose, Jeremy Avis, Sharon Durant and Lisa Cassidy, and musician Adrian Lever. The music was written by Jonathan Baker, Sian Croose and Orlando Gough.
Time Horizon consisted of 100 sculptures, each placed at the same height above sea level, resulting in some being partially buried in the ground and others on high plinths. Daisy Hillyard's essay written for the Time Horizon book was key to the project, becoming the libretto for the piece.
Voice Project co-directors Jonathan Baker and Sian Croose worked closely with composer Orlando Gough and artist Antony Gorley in the creation and development of The Lie of the Land.

The Lie of the Land took place on 13 and 14 July 2024.
