IDEAS OF FLIGHT

An adventurous song cycle inspired by birds in flight and staged in consultation with RSPB

Ideas of Flight was a Norfolk & Norwich Festival commission. The libretto was sourced from poems by Seamus Heaney, Andrew Motion, Wendy Cope, Ruth Padel and Carol Ann Duff. Music was composed by Barbara Thompson MBE, Orlando Gough, Karen Wimhurst and Jon Baker. Saxophonist Andy Sheppard was a soloist alongside The Voice Project Quintet and Choir.

The first performance took place in Norwich Cathedral accompanied by stunning visual projections. This was followed by performances at St Benet's Abbey, Norfolk. The audience were taken on a steam boat  journey along the River Bure to the abbey ruins, ending in the candlelit St Benedict's Church, Horning.
