Wellcome Collection 1&2/5/19

The opportunity to spend two days working alongside the curatorial team and nine other creative freelancers at the Wellcome Collection came through the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and the organisation called Without Walls which produces outdoor performance with a number of dance, theatre and circus companies across the UK. Standout (slightly anxiety-provoking) moment for me in the Medicine Man permanent exhibition was having to describe a 4000 year-old trepanned skull (!) to a large contingent of the very knowledgeable gallery guides plus some of the curatorial team. The collection itself tells a fascinating and eclectic story of the human history of medical science from the strictly scientific to the wilder reaches of parapsychology and witchcraft. The sense of space and light in the building (on London’s Euston Road) is quite inspiring as is this beautiful reading room. JB
